Loss Of Appetite

It’s well known that dogs love their tucker, so if Fido is off his food, there's likely to be a good reason. Has he had to get used to new surroundings? Some dogs get nervous and uncomfortable in unfamiliar places - like new homes or on holiday. Others get travel sickness. Some are just picky, or won’t eat in places they feel uncomfortable, such as around another dog or from a bowl sitting somewhere that makes them uneasy. So if your dog’s appetite was fine until some sort of change was introduced, this might well be the cause.

A reduced appetite can often be a sign of sickness, especially if your dog has other symptoms at the same time. On the one hand, he simply may have eaten something that didn't agree with him, or maybe a recent vaccination has left him off colour. Loss of appetite in dogs isn’t always something serious, but be aware that it could also be a sign of infection, dental disease, liver or kidney problems, kidney failure or even cancer.

If your dog’s appetite issues don’t resolve within a day or two, seek veterinary advice.
